The 8th Street Broadway Roastery
The Saskatoon Broadway Roastery is a Saskatoon favorite, this you can tell by the occasional long winding lines out of the front door {even in the frigid weather). Hot Chocolate is a favorite of children and adults alike. Saskatoon Berry lattes as well as several other local options add cultural flair. Enjoy the large {now-nonsmoking} extended coffee area or just pick up a nice warming latte to-go!

Not a restaurant per-se, but more of a straight-up coffee joint. I’ve been to both of ‘em. First things first, NOISE, when you go into a coffee shop you go in there to relax and chat with your friends. Noise is tolerable and to be expected in any coffee shop and restaurant, but it is particularly a problem at the Broadway Roastery on Broadway (by the bridge) and can be a real bummer if you get there during a non-slow time, as these coffee shops tend to be quite busy. If you’re extraverted, you might tolerate the noise by talking over it, but dont count on being able to curl up to a book in there and soak in the atmosphere, or taking a date there for an intimate and lively chat, with groups its different since groups rarely lull the chat and the noise is less perceptable. You might also want to sit on one of the outdoor tables, which means more street noise, but less talking noise.
The broadway roastery on 8th is a little better noise-wise, and even atmospherically. This one contains a separated glass room for those who wish to be in a more intimate setting – and even the outer deck is partially closed off to some of the traffic. Its not perfect, but its better than the one on Broadway.
Service is relatively not bad, its hit and miss actually, but generally good. I’ve been to slow coffee shops where the service was terrible, but the coffee made up for it. Well these coffee shops have much quicker service.
Speaking of quality.
Bakery things. Dont buy em unless you’re hungry. Theres nothing outstanding about them. Havent tried the meat pies or other assorteds, but I tried a cinna-bun and it was mediocre, with no special qualities. I invite conflicting points of view here, since I will otherwise not try their bakery stuff again.
Quality of coffees are decent, they’re a little light (lighter than Starbucks), but still very drinkable. I cant give an objective view on the quality of the coffees, but if you want something heavier go with Starbucks or Mystic Java, or even another type. But if you like something light and smooth, then the coffees here will fit the bill.
As far as tastes go, I could not detect a very large spectrum of flavors here, but a real connoseur might disagree with me. Specialty coffees here are decently priced. You can’t go wrong. Sit outside with your friends, or if you have a large group, this would be a good place to meet up, since there’s usually tables available.
I like the Broadway Roastery on Broadway. I always feel like I’m in a relevant cultural setting, whatever that means.
TIP: It’s not on their menu, but if you ask them for a “Red Eye”, they’ll know what you’re asking for, and you’ll enjoy it.
As for the Broadway Roastery on 8th Street, I don’t like the place that much. I applied for a job there twice, on two entirely different years, and the owner told me the same old story both times. I would have bought her a coffee and sat there for a chat, but there was no time for that — I was applying for a job. And there was no money for that — I was applying for a job.
